Teaching Assistant Level 3 (Community Languages in the Classroom)

This course is for you if:
  • You’re interested in becoming a fully qualified Teaching Assistant working in a primary, secondary or Special Educational Needs school
  • A fully funded course, recognised by schools and LEAs, would further your goal of a successful career in education
  • A work placement in a local school as part of your training would suit you
  • You are prepared to go back to the classroom to study how to help children learn
  • You’d like to progress to Higher Level Teaching Status

Details

Course: Teaching Assistant Level 3 (Community Languages to the Classroom)
Qualification: NCFE, Level 3 Certificate for Teaching Assistants
Funding: Fully funded
Benefits: Travel expenses; exam fees; tuition; arrangement of school placement; CRB check.
Childcare funding and a training allowance may also be availabl
Structure: 26 weeks, combination classroom study with Twin, and work placement in a local school
Location:

Course: Twin training venue in various London boroughs
Placement: school in Lambeth, Southwark, Bromley, Hackney, Lewisham or Greenwich boroughs

Who is eligible?

Age: 18+
Language/background: Those from any background are very welcome. We're especially interested in recruiting trainees that speak a second language and/or have a strong cultural and ethnic identity.
Literacy and numeracy: A minimum standard of literacy and numeracy will be required
Status: Economically inactive (unemployed or working for less than 16 hours per week)
Not training on any other government-funded course
Qualification: No prior Level 3 qualification or more than Level 2, eg more than one A level
Residence: Live in, or be prepared to travel to, schools in Lambeth, Southwark, Bromley, Hackney, Lewisham or Greenwich boroughs

What do trainees learn?

The course includes:

  • Developing and maintaining professional skills and knowledge
  • Developing and maintaining effective working relationships
  • Contributing to the management of pupils’ behaviour
  • Contributing to pupils’ learning
  • Supporting the development of pupils literacy, numeracy and ICT skills
  • Supporting pupils with special educational needs
