Teaching Assistant Level 2 (Train to Gain)

Twin’s City & Guilds NVQ is designed to meet the new National Occupational Standards for teaching assistants. It is a work-based qualification for those who assist teachers in the classroom, supporting learning in primary, secondary and specialist schools.

It is a free, government-funded opportunity, under the Train to Gain initiative, to provide a sound academic and practical foundation to the classroom-based skills of learning support assistants.

Details

Course: Teaching Assistant (Level 2)
Qualification: City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (7329)
Funding: Fully funded
Structure: 8 sessions + 3 optional extra units
Half-day sessions by arrangement
Location: Twin training centres across London
OR
At your school for 8 or more learners

Who is eligible?

Age: 19+
Status: Employed as a paid teaching assistant in a UK school
Have no other Level 2 qualification
Not training on any other government-funded course
Residence: Have been living in the EU for at least 3 years

What do trainees learn?

Learners will study and meet the following Units of Competence:

  • Promoting independence
  • Confidentiality
  • Continual professional development

Assessment

Each learner is asked to complete a number of tasks, based on their work in school. These tasks will build into a portfolio of evidence, submitted at the end of the course.

There are no formal examinations, but they will be assessed in the classroom by our trainers and their own supervisors during the course.

  • Help with classroom resources and records:
    • Organisation of the learning environment
    • Classroom records
  • Help with the care and support of pupils:
    • Individuals and groups
  • Provide support for learning activities:
    • Support the teacher in planning and evaluating learning activities
    • Support the delivery of learning activities
  • Provide effective support for colleagues:
    • Maintain working relationships
    • Develop effectiveness in a support role
