Jim McCarthy, chief executive officer at Poundland, told the BBC On The Money podcast that while graduates may be preferred to school leavers for some roles, a degree alone is not enough.
"Attitude, commitment, enthusiasm, a good friendly nature [and a] positive attitude is every bit as good as a degree," he stated.
The expert pointed out that a degree is a good qualification to have in today's competitive jobs market.
Simon Duffy, co-founder of the male grooming brand Bulldog, echoed Mr McCarthy's claims, telling the podcast that his company looks for candidates that display enthusiasm and are keen to work for the firm.
According to a spokesperson from Jobsite.co.uk, smartphones can help people looking to find work in London, as they can check job postings wherever they are.
