Cream of UK apprentices to appear at Birmingham Skills Show

Squad UK, which is comprised of the UK's most talented apprentices, employers and learners, won seven medals at EuroSkills in Spa, Belgium, from 4 - 6 October.  All Squad UK members are aged 18 - 25.

Squad UK won medals across five skills: hairdressing, carpentry, window display, painting and decorating and stonemasonry.

Squad UK's next appearance will be at The Skills Show, which takes place from 15 - 17 November at the NEC Birmingham.

Members of the team will be showing Skills Show visitors their aptitude in subjects such as beauty therapy, cooking and confectionery.

The EuroSkills competition takes place every two years in cities throughout Europe.  Organised by WorldSkills Europe, it develops skills competitions as a tool for further developing skills structures in Europe.

Jaine Bolton, Chief Operating Officer of The National Apprenticeship Service said:  "Congratulations to Squad UK.  Their fantastic performance at EuroSkills Spa 2012 has shown how talented our apprentices and young people are.

"We want Squad UK's performance at EuroSkills to inspire our young people, just like the Olympics did, and show them that Apprenticeships can lead to rewarding and successful careers."

The EuroSkills competition also provided Squad UK with a valuable warm-up for next year's bi-annual WorldSkills competition, where they will be competing against top apprentices from China, France and Germany.
