Lord Adebowale hails partnerships on welfare to work

Lord Adebowale made the claim in an open letter he wrote for the PPP Journal.

Lord Adebowale said in the letter: "Partnerships can allow both [public and private] sectors to enter into new markets and for private companies choosing to work with not-for-profit organisations there are huge benefits too. For example, charities and social enterprises have experience of working with disadvantaged groups using an innovative and person-centred approach - something that is now being adopted by some organisations within the private sector.

"Another benefit of commissioning from social enterprises and voluntary sector organisations is that they have a unique ability to involve communities in service delivery. When it comes to value of the brand, bringing charities on board also increases trust.

Lord Adebowale went on to say: "A key area in which private sector organisations, charities and social enterprises are forming effective partnerships is in the provision of public services, including welfare to work services. These types of partnerships have been in existence for several years and seem set to continue under the government's new work programme. By optimising the specialist knowledge and shared learning that results from partnerships, the likelihood of achieving long-term, sustainable job outcomes is greatly increased."
