Young people urged to find out more about vocational education at upcoming event

The City & Guilds Vocational Rich List ranks wealth among those who have built their fortunes following an apprenticeship or other practical qualification. The seventh edition of the list shows Britain's self-made, vocational elite are worth a collective £17.6 billion - a billion pound increase since 2008

Mrs Schofield said: "The latest City & Guilds Vocational Rich List shows that young people don't necessarily need a university education to succeed in life. The demand for new recruits in vocationally trained areas like engineering, plumbing and construction is greater than it has been in decades, despite the downturn in other jobs caused by the reception.

"Employers in sectors which traditionally recruit higher education graduates are also starting to realise the benefits that vocational training schemes can bring them. Companies like Santander and Virgin are developing their own vocational training programmes to ensure their staff have skills relevant for business."

Young people who are interested in vocational education can attend an information event next week in Lewisham. The event will be held in Twin's headquarters at 67-71 Lewisham High Street on 24th August from 1-4pm and 25th August from 10am to 3pm.

Staff from Twin Employment & Training will be on hand at the event to offer careers & training advice to pupils who have just received their GCSE results. Representatives from local colleges and academies will also be available at the event to discuss course options.
