A job offer in Portugal

A job offer in Portugal

Living my best life in Portugal

Ellie in PortugalI was looking for a new opportunity and always wanted to work abroad, when I found Twin’s Erasmus scheme it seemed like the perfect package for what I had in mind. I was going through a slight career change and wanted to gain some experience in digital marketing, and through word of mouth, I heard that Lisbon has been on the rise for digital startups. Turns out it was the perfect place for it! The Erasmus scheme offered initial training and support throughout, as well as the opportunity to learn Portuguese whilst I was working there, which really made me feel comfortable living and working with the locals. Learning a new language was one of my initial goals and it has completely transformed my perspective on travel as now I feel more confident to do so with some Portuguese under my belt.

Dusk in LisbonThe culture is just incredible, the history of Portugal has so much depth, and you just feel so inclined to discover more there as the beauty of the city sways you to explore.

The internship was very dynamic and a continuous learning experience from start to finish. It was my first experience being in a design office, it became an inspiring environment to be in as the creative team constantly bounce ideas off of one another and collectively create very cool furniture - it made it easy for me to market their pieces and become passionate very quickly! I was lucky enough to then be offered a job at the end of my internship, and I am now working for them full time whilst living in Lisbon for the foreseeable future! Very happy.

On the completion of my Erasmus+ programme, I received a certificate from City and Guilds for Social Media for Business which completely elevated my CV along with the internship itself.

Making new friends during my internship

Making friens in LisbonThe experience was rewarding in so many ways as I learnt a lot about myself from living and working abroad, interacting with new cultures, living like a local, and being exposed to the design industry in a country famous for its craftsmanship. I met some great people along the way and made some new friends for life, one of the girls I became close with is also moving out to Lisbon for a while!

I would highly recommend going on an Erasmus for these reasons and it completely exceeded my expectations, to the point where I have built another life for myself from it! If I had to give advice to anyone going on an Erasmus scheme it would be; keep your mind open and embrace any opportunity that comes your way.
