Back on Track: Joanne’s Move from Caring to Career

Joanne's journey from caregiving to career success with guidance with Twin and National Careers service.

When Joanne walked into the Newhaven Job Centre, she was ready to return to work but unsure where to begin. With over 20 years of experience in customer service, housing support, and administrative roles including 18 years at Brighton and Hove Council, she had a strong foundation. But after taking voluntary redundancy and spending nearly a year as a full-time carer for her mother, she lacked an updated CV and felt disconnected from the job market.

That was when Joanne was referred to Twin Group. We supported her in identifying the next steps, and through our partnership with the National Careers Service, we helped her access personalised guidance to get back on track.

Joanne had a clear goal. She wanted to move into a medical secretary role. She had the relevant experience but needed help bringing her CV up to date and building some sector-specific knowledge. Working closely with an adviser from the National Careers Service, Joanne created a CV that reflected her strengths and explained her recent career break with confidence.

Alongside this, we supported her to enrol on an online course in medical terminology. The course gave her fresh momentum and strengthened her prospects in the medical administration field.

With the right support in place, Joanne gained both the confidence and practical tools to move forward. Her new CV and focused training have positioned her as a strong candidate in a new sector she is genuinely excited to enter.

Joanne’s journey shows what can happen when the right support, timing and determination come together. We are proud to work alongside the National Careers Service to help people take meaningful steps back into work, no matter where they are starting from.

If you are ready to explore your next move, we are here to help.
