“It’s great being able to come into an office and get a real feel for a working environment.”
Twenty-three-year-old Franklin Immanuel was prepared to undertake any long-distance travel for the right job opportunity – but he never imagined his first working role on Twin UK’s Kickstart scheme would be just a five-minute commute from his Greenwich home.
“Suffice to say that I am never late for work,” said Franklin who started at the company’s head office in May after applying to Twin to join their Kickstart programme.
The government-backed Kickstart Scheme provides funding to create new six-month job placements for 16 to 24-year-olds who are at risk of long term unemployment.
Franklin is a sales administrator in the sales team, which promotes Twin’s educational packages. He graduated last year with a degree in Business Management and Economics.
The Kickstart learning journey with Twin provides each candidate with a wrap-around service, developing skills and knowledge for their chosen career.
Each Kickstart participant is allocated an advisor and completes online employability modules. A personalised learning plan also facilitates progress towards their goals. The learning plan also establishes the timeline for manager reviews and the development of key employability skills, career guidance and planning for the next stage of their career after Kickstart completes.
“I’ve had training to operate the in-house sales system,” added Franklin. “My role is to ensure all the information required by the sales team is accurate and timely. I feel like I’m a good fit for the team because I developed the analytical skills that are useful for the work I’m now doing during my degree.
“I work closely with my line manager and am getting a good grounding in the use of the software systems. I know that if I get stuck, I can always ask my manager.
“It’s great being able to come into an office and get a real feel for a working environment. I am excited about the next four months, and I know that I am going to have every opportunity to learn from each team member about how they promote the different products and finalise the deal with a customer.”
